I'm a road warrior and have had to opportunity to try treadmills and elliptical machines in hotels from Proform, Cybex, Precor, Life Fitness, Sole, and a few others. I settled on Vision Fitness because of the quality, solid build, ease of use of the console, and variety of programs available.
We bought the Vision Fitness X-40 and it arrived last Friday The elliptical itself arrived in a single box packed very well. The console was shipped in a separate box, also very well packaged.
Assembly was straightforward but time consuming. Vision fitness packs all the screws, washers, nuts, and bolts laid out on a sheet of cardboard and separated for each step of the process, which greatly simplified the assembly. All necessary tools are also included. The assembly instructions are clearly written with clear, relevant photos. Assembly took about two and a half hours for the two of us. There were a couple of spots where two people were necessary, one to hold parts in place while the other attached the bolts etc.
We bought TF-20 at the same time both with the Elegant consoles. On both machines the console crashed immediately after starting any of the classic or sprint 8 programs. This was corrected with a software update, which was easy to apply and difficult to locate.
The machines are solidly built and very quiet. The displays are crystal clear and provide a wealth of information at a glance without having to push buttons to switch between heart rate, calories burned, speed, etc. as all are displayed simultaneously. The displays are also large enough that I can read them without my glasses which is a problem on a lot of the equipment we tried before deciding on Vision Fitness.
We had an issue with the elliptical making a grinding noise and called the support number. We got a call back in about half an hour and the technician helped us through the leveling process that eliminated the noise. Excellent support, staff, very patient and thorough and obviously had knowledge of the products.
We had a few of issues with the Vision Fitness website. First, every manual tells you to go to the site to register your machine. There was, however no registration link. I eventually found it by going to the parent company Johnsonfitness.com and selecting registration by brand and then selecting Vision Fitness. The second issue we had was that in the support and troubleshooting section of the site, there was no link to the software updates. I eventually found them through a Google search, which linked to the Vision Fitness site. Finally, there are Wisconsin and US 800 numbers for support in the manuals, but the only phone numbers on the site were in Taiwan.
